Passenger cars registration down by 17% in August

Car sales continue to fall in Finland. And it is already eight consecutive months of declines.

The number of new passenger cars registered in August was 9,993, which was 16.8% less compared to the same month the year before, according to Statistics Finland.

In August, a total of 16,169 new motor vehicles were registered across the whole country, of which 11,974 were automobiles. In aggregated terms, first registrations decreased by 7.5% from the corresponding month of the previous year.

The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 18.5 per cent. These data are based on the Traffic Affairs Register of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) and they have been produced by Statistics Finland. The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.

January to August

In the January to August period a total of 133,306 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was an decrease of 5.6 per cent.

The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to August period was 79,492, which is 12.8 per cent down from the year before.

Toyota, Volkswagen and Skoda were the most common passenger car brands first registered in the January to August period.
