Prices of existing single-family homes rose 5.5% at the end of 2020

In 2020, prices of existing single-family houses rose by 9.2% in Greater Helsinki and by 0.6% in the rest of Finland.

In the last quarter of 2020, prices of existing single-family houses rose by an average of 5.5% from the previous year. In Greater Helsinki, prices rose by 8.7% and in the rest of the country by 5.1%.  Compared with the previous quarter, prices increased by an average of 0.6%.

These data derive from Statistics Finland’s Index of real estate prices, which is compiled by utilising data from the real estate transaction register of the National Land Survey of Finland. The statistics cover single-family houses located on own plot.

In the whole country, the average price per square metre for existing single-family houses was 1,664 euros in the last quarter of 2020. In Greater Helsinki, the average price per square metre of single-family houses was 3,504 euros. In the rest of the country it was 1,527 euros.

In the fourth quarter, prices of single-family house plots rose by 12.8% in the whole country from the year before. From the previous quarter, prices of plots rose by 4.6%. The average price per square metre for a single-family house plot was 25.8 euros and the average size of sold plots was 2,764 square metres.

Annual development

In 2020, prices of existing single-family houses rose by 1.4% in the whole country. In Greater Helsinki, prices went up by 9.2% and in the rest of Finland by 0.6%. In 2020, the average price per square metre was 3,369 euros in Greater Helsinki and 1,497 euros in the rest of the country.

In 2020, prices of single-family house plots rose by 7.6% in the whole country. In Greater Helsinki, prices went up by 11.2% and in the rest of Finland by 6.4%. In 2020, the average price per square metre for a plot was 192.7 euros in Greater Helsinki and 17.0 euros in the rest of the country.
