The arrival of foreign leaders to Finland continues this week with the visit of Namibian Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, who will visit the country on 8-10 September, informed the Government Communications Department.

In Helsinki, Mbumba will meet with Rinne to talk about bilateral cooperation between Namibia and Finland. He will also meet the President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö and former President Martti Ahtisaari. Besides the capital city, Mbumba will also visit the city of Turku.

The topics to be discussed include bilateral relations between Finland and Namibia, great global challenges that unite Africa and Europe such as climate change, international and regional questions, and Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Cooperation with Finnish companies

The visit is part of the Finnish Government’s efforts towards closer relations with African countries and also involving Finnish companies even more closely in the cooperation.

“It is very important for me that the first high-level visitor I have the honour to be hosting as Prime Minister comes from Africa, and Namibia in particular. We wish to strengthen genuine partnership between Finland and African countries. It was in Namibia where this cooperation got started 150 years ago. While celebrating the exceptionally long history of this close partnership, we want to find new ways to further deepen our cooperation, especially in the commercial and economic sectors,” Prime Minister Rinne says.
