The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) reported Friday the record number of 344 new infections in one day.

The health agency also reported 4 new deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 358. Of those deaths, 287 (or 80%) occurred in the capital region.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, the Finnish health authorities have reported in total 15,910 cases of infection.

The number of people in hospital care is 58, which is 7 less compared to last Wednesday. The number of people in intensive care remained stable at 10.

2,500 cases in two weeks

During the most recent fourteen-day monitoring period (14–27 October) 2,506 new cases were diagnosed. The incidence of new cases in relation to the population was 45.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during this period, which ended three days ago, THL says.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), which monitors the development of the pandemic across Europe, currently the incidence in Finland is 46.6 cases per 100,000 people in the past two weeks.

Finnish laboratories have carried out 1,521,400 tests since the beginning of the pandemic.

An estimated 11,300 people have recovered from the disease, which is about 70% of the reported cases.
