Eight more deaths associated with the Covid-19 disease occurred in Finland in the past 24 hours, Finnish health authorities reported on Wednesday 13 January.

According to the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), these fatalities brought the total death toll in Finland to 610 since the pandemic started.

Most of the deaths (415) have been recorded in the capital region, the epicenter of the epidemic and the worst hit area. Helsinki-Uusimaa reported 15 deaths in the past 7 days.

THL also reported 324 new infections detected in the past 24 hours. So far, the total number of diagnosed cases in the Nordic country amounts to 39,335.

Hospitals, vaccinations

The number of people in hospital care was 150 at the time of writing this article. Of them, 28 were admitted to intensive care units.

To date, Finland has vaccinated at least 23.126 people, according to data from the Finnish National Immunization Registry. However, THL says there are "several problems" in data transfer, so the actual number of people vaccinated "is significantly higher" and will be specified retroactively later.
