A handgun used by Sean Connery in the first James Bond film was sold at auction for 256,000 dollars on Thursday.

The Walther PP gun appeared in the 1962 film 'Dr. No' and was used by Connery in his first film playing secret agent 007, as well as the first film in the series.

Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills had estimated it would sell for 150,000 to 200,000 dollars.

The buyer decided to remain anonymous, but the auction house said it was an American who has watched every Bond film with his children.

Connery died in October at the age of 90 in the Bahamas. He was the favourite Bond actor for many fans. He played the British spy seven times between 1962 and 1983.
