Danish Crown Princess Mary has accepted an invitation to be a keynote speaker at the upcoming Copenhagen Pride Week, organizers said on Monday.

"The crown princess has on several occasions shown her support for the LGBTI+ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and other sexual and gender orientations] community and advocated for equal rights for all," said Pride Week chairperson Lars Henriksen.

"It is a strong signal to show that in Denmark, we are united - everywhere in our society - in the effort to ensure that everyone is safe and knows that they are valued members of our society," he added.

Copenhagen Pride Week 2020 takes place from August 17 to 23, with about 100 events held at City Hall Square. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Copenhagen Pride Parade set for August 22 will be held digitally.

Televised show

On the evening of August 22, the crown princess is to speak at a televised show. Next year, Copenhagen is set to host WorldPride and EuroGames, which the Australian-born crown princess has accepted to be a patron of.

Mary, 48, is married to Danish Crown Prince Frederik, who is heir to the Danish throne.

A few weeks ago, Swedish Crown Princess Victoria gave a keynote speech at Stockholm's LGBT Pride Parade, also held digitally over the pandemic. She was the first member of the Swedish royal family to participate in a Stockholm Pride event.
