Chinese tourists are the ones that increased most their presence and their stays in Finnish hotel establishments in 2019.

According to the latest figures published by Statistics Finland, in January to December 2019, the number of overnight stays spent by Chinese tourists increased by 51,300. This was 15.4% more overnight stays than in the year before.

During the whole year 2019, Chinese tourists were the fifth largest group of visitors, with a total of 384,000 overnight stays.

In December, Chinese tourists were also the group that increased most in absolute numbers, by 7,900 nights (24.9% more).

The biggest group of non-resident tourists were Russians, with 814,000 overnight stays. The second largest group was Germans (661,000 overnight stays), and fourth were Swedes (557,000).

The biggest drop was seen in overnight stays by Britons, down by 24,800 nights (-4.2%) compared to 2018.

In all, the number of nights spent in Finland by foreign tourists in 2019 was 7.04 million (2.9% more than one year before).

The above explained figures have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 20 beds or caravan pitches with electricity connection.
