Election results in Belarus not fair, Foreigner.fi readers say

After the last Presidential Election in Belarus, state media declared Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko won 80.23% of the vote. On the other hand, his strong opponents won 9.9%.

Belarusian opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya had earlier refused to accept state media projections. Belarusian authorities detained about 3,000 people at protests throughout the country following the presidential election. However, the protests are still continuing and every day more people attended the calls of the opposition.

The voting was not independently observed by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and since the polls the voting process has been criticized by officials in Europe and the United States.

Therefore Foreigner.fi asked the readers in a Twitter poll: “Do you think the 2020 Presidential Election in Belarus was fair?”

The respondents were given two options which were 'Yes' and ‘No’.

The mini poll was answered by 49 readers and 83.7% of them said ‘No’ and 16.3% voted ‘Yes’.
