On Monday, many residents of the Tikkurila neighborhood in Vantaa got a good scare. A large crane collapsed early in the morning on the roof of an apartment building under construction, without causing victims or personal injuries.
Only the crane driver was trapped at its highest part, but fortunately he was later rescued in good condition, confirmed the rescue services.
The events happened after nine in the morning. At 9:36, the Emergency Service received a call informing about a possible explosion or collapse. According to Finnish newspaper Iltalehti, neighbours and witnesses described the fall of the crane as a 'big bang'.
Several trucks from the fire service, ambulances and police patrols moved to the site. The police have proceeded to cordon off the area and asked passersby to move away from the place, as some debris from the building could fall.
