The South Western Finland District Court has remanded into custody a 30-year-old man for the murder of Sini Ruohonen, the young woman from Pöytyä whose disappearance was made public by the authorities a week ago.

According to police information, Ruohonen left her home in Pöytyä (about 40 kilometres north from Turku) on Friday 11 September during the evening and was no longer seen alive.

On Wednesday 16 September, the police published an alert and asked for clues about her whereabouts.

Over the past weekend, police in the region said the woman's lifeless body had been found and the case was being investigated as a homicide.

The suspect in the crime is the victim's husband, with whom she shared a house in Pöytyä. The man was arrested on Thursday 17 September based on the police investigation.

During questioning, the suspect admitted that he killed her.

The criminal classification of the act was later changed to murder, though it might still change as the investigation progresses.
