The year 2020 was more mournful in terms of the number of deaths on Finnish roads than the previous one.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, a total of 3,584 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in 2020 on Finnish roads. In them, 220 people were killed and 4,383 injured.

The number of persons killed was 15 higher, but that of persons injured was 604 lower than in 2019.

Of the persons who were killed, 124 travelled by passenger car, 10 by van, two by moped, 20 by motorcycle and four by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 22 and cyclists 30. In addition, eight other road users were killed.

December

In December, 243 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic. In them, 8 persons were killed and 308 persons injured.

The number of persons killed was 3 lower and that of persons injured 93 lower than in December 2019.

Of the persons who were killed in December, 5 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van and 1 by lorry. Cyclists killed in road traffic accidents numbered 1. Among those who died, 7 were men and 1 was a woman.
