The Helsinki district court has imprisoned one of the three minors arrested last weekend for a homicide in the Vallila neighborhood, north of Helsinki.

According to police information, he is a 16-year-old boy suspected of stabbing to death a 19-year-old man. The homicide was perpetrated on Saturday 31 October around 1:00 in the morning at the intersection of Mäkelankatu and Päijänteentie, in front of the Alepa supermarket.

The deadline for prosecuting is 18 January 2021.

The victim was a man born in 2001, who was urgently taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries later in the morning.

Police said in a previous press release that three underage boys (between 14 and 16 years old) are suspected of the crime. Two of them, aged 14 and 16, were later arrested.

In Finland, criminal liability begins at the age of 15, so the 14-year-old cannot be prosecuted and his case has been transferred to the child protection services.

Perpetrator of another stabbing

According to MTV News, the now-incarcerated suspect is a Roma boy who was also a suspect in another attempted murder by stabbing committed in early October in the Kaukajärvi district of Tampere.

In that case, the suspect was accompanied by another 15-year-old boy with whom he had run away from a foster home. He allegedly stabbed a random victim - a middle-aged man - in the stomach after demanding money to buy gasoline.

The Pirkanmaa District Court arrested the 16-year-old boy, but then released him and only imposed a travel ban on him.
