Finland gained 4,929 inhabitants from January to July due to immigration

In July 17,568 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 7,342 people left the country. In all, 5,091 (or 29%) of the immigrants and 4,702 (or 64%) of the emigrants were Finnish citizens. Statistical data also show that women far outnumber men. Of the total population, 2,726,730 are males and 2,796,118 females.

Finland's population continues to increase thanks to the arrival of immigrants. At the end of July 5,522,848 persons lived in the country, according to Statistics Finland's preliminary data.

These figures show that Finland's population increased by 4,929 persons during the period January to July. And the reason for this increase was once again migration gain from abroad, since immigration exceeded emigration by 10,226 persons.

On the other hand, the number of births was 4,948 lower than that of deaths.

Fewer births than deaths 

Figures also show that during January-July the number of births continued declining. A total of 26,313 children were born in the first seven months of the year, which is 1,781 fewer than in the corresponding period of 2018. The number of deaths was 31,261, which is also 1,247 lower than one year earlier.

According to the preliminary statistics for July, 17,568 persons immigrated to Finland from abroad and 7,342 persons emigrated from Finland. The number of immigrants was 782 higher and the number of emigrants 2,613 lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year. In all, 5,091 of the immigrants and 4,702 of the emigrants were Finnish citizens.

The number of inter-municipal migrations totaled 151,605 during January-July. Compared with the corresponding period in 2018, the decrease was 2,123 migrations according to the municipal division of 2019.

Statistical data also show that women far outnumber men. Of the total population, 2,726,730 are males and 2,796,118 females.
