"I hate gay people"

That's what a young man said Saturday night after showing up at an LGBT party on a Jyväskylä beach and attacking several people, the Finnish organization SETA, which defends the rights of the LGBT community, said on Facebook.

According to the organization's account, the attacker behaved violently and physically injured several people present at the event with punches, kicks and even bites.

The attacker was subdued by organization members and the events were reported to the police, who quickly went to the scene.

The local newspaper Keskisuomalainen reported that the attacker was a young man. He arrived at the party around midnight, and was initially friendly and eager to chat with the party participants. Some time later his hostile behavior towards other people began.

According to a police statement, the attack took place on the shores of lake Tuomiojärvi, where the party organized by the SETA collective was taking place. The course of events is under investigation.

This is the second incident involving violence or threats against the LGBT community recorded in Finland during the celebration of Pride Week 2021.
