Last week a 23-year-old woman was killed in the Finnish city of Turku when an electric scooter she was driving crashed into a local city bus.

Police, who have been investigating the events ever since, said Tuesday that they suspect the accident could be caused by the bus driver.

According to a statement from the Southwest Finland Police Department, the bus driver could have committed two crimes: negligent homicide and endangering road safety.

The crash occurred on Wednesday 4 August when the bus was circulating through the central street of Uudenmaankatu, at the Hämeenkatu intersection, in the direction of the Kupittaa neighborhood, and the woman who was driving the electric scooter crossed over Uudenmaankatu by the extension of a bike lane.

The police say they have assessed the events with the help of the security camera recordings available at the scene and several witnesses have also been heard.

According to the Iltalehti newspaper, suspicions arise from the behavior of the bus driver at the traffic light.

Deceased woman

Based on the evidence received, the police say that the bus driver is suspected of a possible negligent homicide and a serious endangerment of road safety.

The deceased woman who was driving the electric scooter is not suspected of any wrongdoing.

Police say they will continue to investigate the accident. The preliminary investigation is expected to be completed in the coming months.
