Finland recorded 490 new coronavirus infections and 1 death since last Friday, according to figures reported by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).

More specifically, 203 new cases were reported to the Registry of Communicable Diseases on Saturday 31 October; 178 new cases on Sunday 1 November and 109 cases on Monday 2 November. With them, the total number of infections reported since the beginning of the epidemic amounts to 16,400.

The health authorities also reported a death more associated with the disease that occurred in the Tampere area. With it, the total number of deaths in Finland since the beginning of the pandemic rises to 359.

12 more in hospital care

The number of people hospitalized for coronavirus increased by 12 since last Friday, to 70. And the number of patients in intensive care is currently 13, which is 3 more than last Friday.

The largest number of new cases have been recorded in the hospital districts of Helsinki and Uusimaa, Southwest Finland, North Ostrobothnia, Pirkanmaa, Vaasa, Kymenlaakso, Central Finland, North Savo and Kanta-Häme.

On Friday 30 October, Finland reported a record daily figure of 344 new infections.

Incidence of new cases

According to THL, during the most recent fourteen-day monitoring period (17–30 October) 2,533 new cases were diagnosed. The incidence of new cases in relation to the population was 45.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the above-mentioned period.

But according to the latest updates by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), which monitors the development of the epidemic across Europe, currently the incidence of new cases in Finland is 52 new cases per 100,000 residents.

An estimated 11,300 people in Finland have already recovered from the disease, which is about 70% of reported cases.
