Finland continues to record deaths from coronavirus (koronavirus, in Finnish).

In the last 24 hours, 5 more people have lost their lives due to disease caused by the Covid-19 virus. This is the highest number recorded in one day since the outbreak of the epidemic. So far, 25 people died in Finland. 

According to the latest figures published by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), most of those deaths occurred in the capital region, Uusimaa, which has been isolated from the rest of the country in an attempt to curb the spread of the disease.

In the last 24 hours, 4 patients died in the HYKS special area of responsibility, which includes Helsinki and its surrounding municipalities. An 1 more death was reported in the KYS special area of responsibility, which has as its center the city of Kuopio.

Altogether, those two areas account for 23 of the 25 deaths reported in Finland. This is 92% of the deceased.

The Age of the dead

According to THL, the age of the patient is known for 19 of the deceased.

Among the dead, there are two people aged 51-70;  other 13 dead were aged 71-90 and other 4 people were over the age of 90.

The median age of the deceased is 84 years.

In total, samples were taken from more than 29,000 patients (2,700 more than the previous day) in Finnish hospitals since the epidemic started. The number of people who tested positive is 1,882. This figure is 267 more than that reported 24 hours before.

In relation to the Finnish population (5,526,774 people), the incidence of cases is 34 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
