Finnish health authorities reported 449 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours on Monday.

The incidence of coronavirus continues to increase in the week that children will return to school, with face-to-face teaching scheduled in the vast majority of educational centers.

The incidence of the disease nationwide continues to rise in this fourth wave of the epidemic, standing at 165 infections per 100,000 residents on Monday, according to the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). The incidence of the coronavirus was 87 cases per 100,000 in the previous two-week period.

However, the spread of the disease is much greater in the most populated areas of the south of the 5.5 million country.

In the Helsinki-Uusimaa region (the capital city and its surroundings) the virus incidence exceeded 266 infections per 100,000 inhabitants on Monday, being 155 in the previous 14-day period.

In the Helsinki area, 4,539 infections have been reported in the last two weeks.

Turku, Tampere, Lapland

In the hospital district of South-West Finland (the Turku area), the incidence was 207 cases in the last two weeks, having been 103 in the previous two-week period. In this region, 1,004 cases have been diagnosed in the last two weeks.

Meanwhile in the region of Pirkanmaa (Tampere), 1,002 infections have been diagnosed, raising the incidence to 185 cases per 100,000 residents in the past two-week period. The incidence of the previous 14-day period was 84 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The incidence of Covid-19 is high even in remote and almost depopulated Lapland, where it has risen to 119 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Of course, in Lapland the number of cases registered in the last two-week period is much lower, only 140 infections compared to 66 in the previous two weeks.
