The Nihtisilta reception center, in Espoo, has been quarantined due to the spread of the coronavirus disease.

The decision on quarantine was made on 30 April 30 by the Infectious Diseases Unit of the City of Espoo, after nearly 100 asylum seekers living in the facility tested positive for Covid-19.

The center is run by the company Luona Oy, which also administrates another reception center in Vantaa (Robert Huberin tie).

The Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) reported that prior to that, other 27 coronavirus cases had been detected in Luona reception centers.

Most of the infected live in Nihtisilta, where some 410 asylum seekers have their homes. The majority of the infected had mild or no symptoms and some patients have already recovered.

Residents cannot leave the building and have been ordered to stay inside their rooms.

No hospital treatment

Most of the staff working in the center have been also tested.

Luona, the company running the centre, says none of the infected needed hospital treatment nor belong to risk groups.

The company says it is still unknown how the virus entered the center. Next measures to address this problem will be agreed on Monday with Espoo Health authorities.
